I have been a counselor since 1980, and working at the master's level since 1986. I use a variety of theoretical approaches, which I'd be happy to describe to you if you are interested. (Mostly, couples don't care a lot about theory -- if you do, let me know. The short answer is that I have a lot of background in couples and family therapy.)

I am my husband's second wife, and so I married into a (pretty good) divorce. I am a stepmother, birth mother, a former foster mother, a current adoptive mother, a mother-in-law, and a grandmother -- thus, a member of a number of families, some of which held together over time, and some of which did not. I have come to believe that if a couple is gently supported and firmly confronted by a third person who believes that their relationship can continue, even if the couple cannot immediately believe that, the odds are strengthened for their relationship to improve and endure. This is what I try to offer.

Although I have deeply held religious beliefs, the more important issue is that I will respect yours -- and I'll respect if religion and spirituality aren't a part of your life, too. If you want to add a discussion of this part of your life to your therapy, I'm happy to do so -- and if you don't, we won't. It's that simple.

Best wishes in finding the best person to help you with your relationship!
