I have been providing couples therapy for over 12 years, and am very familiar with the feelings of sadness, frustration, and hopelessness that couples experience when their marriage is not the source of connection and security they envisioned when they exchanged their wedding vows. Their relationship has instead become a source of pain, frustration, sadness, and anger. Something must change- it is easy to think in this moment that ending the relationship will bring about the desired change. However, divorce often brings increased stress, depression, and more problems, especially when children are involved.

Each couple has a unique story of how they came together, and how the current problems have taken hold of their relationship. However, I often see the same patterns in these struggling relationships- and I work with each couple to recreate their relationship and discover (often rediscovering) a fulfilling relationship. I believe that couples therapy should not be about placing blame or rehashing the past- it should be about moving out of the negative pattern that has taken hold of the relationship, and building a relationship that can endure and thrive.
