As a psychologist and marriage and family therapist I bring the unique perspectives of each of these disciplines to my clinical practice. While trained in a variety of models, the overarching framework of my practice is contextual theory. A basic premise I hold is that for marriage or committed relationships (whether gay or straight) to be healthy and happy, partners must actively value fair give and take, and consideration of the other's well-being. After treating distressed couples for over 25 years, I routinely find that most relationship conflicts are resolvable when each person feels fairly treated. Even when the facts of a situation do not change, when spouses experience mutual consideration, trust is restored. Concerns I have extensive experience with include: emotional: anxiety, depression, bi-polar illness; behavioral: health, fertility, cancer-related, substance abuse; relational: including couples, families with children, and adults and their parents. My conviction arises not only from my professional training, but also from my own life and primary relationships.
