I have been a Marriage Counselor for over 30 years. I am not a neutral, unbiased psychotherapist. I AM biased. I begin with the assumption that there are some valid reasons for you to make your marriage work. To quote Bill Doherty: “I’ll be the last one in the room to give up on your marriage.”

We begin with a focus on communication skills, skills crucial to a happy marriage. I will help you learn to honor your differences, understand the importance of encouragement, learn to give and receive appreciation, treat each other tenderly, and listen deeply and nonjudgmentally to each other. This leads to a shared approach to conflict resolution that is peaceful, respectful, and safe.

We do this work without blame. We may go back to the past to understand why there is a deficit in a certain area, but we do not stay in the past. It can be really comforting to understand, and maybe forgive, some things about our past, but the real work is in the present.

We want these skills to become embedded in daily life, and not forgotten or given up easily. Good tools last a Lifetime.
