The pressures in today’s world puts a strain on relationships. It is hard enough to deal with balancing work, raising children and paying the bills, but relationship stress also comes from unfinished business less obvious factors such as emotional residue left over from former romantic partners and early family experience. It is in your romantic relationship where the frustration and hurt from the past is most likely to manifest. This offers a great opportunuty for personal growth. It also can lead to alienation from your partner and can make you feel less of the love and connection that initially attracted you to them.

I see my role as helping you become more skillful in your communication and help you recognize and work with the hidden underlying fears, distorted expectations and beliefs that perpetuate conflict, withdrawal, lack of desire, defensiveness or concerns over intimacy.

I have helped hundreds of couples recognize the hidden obstacles that cause pain in their relationship and learn the skills needed to deepen the quality of their relationship as well as resolve conflict. For over twenty five years I have been working with heterosexual and gay couples . I do not believe in a one -size- fits- all approach to therapy. I am trained in several modalities but I tailor my approach to the unique temperament of my clients. When I work with couples I am interested in your shared vision, how you respond under stress, your capacity to know and convey your feelings and needs, and to what degree you can hold on to your separate sense of self while in relationship. I also pay close attention not only to WHAT you are saying to each other in the moment but also HOW you say it.

I also see engaged couples for premarital therapy. Check out my premarital counseling profile on The First Dance, a wedding relationships website. You can learn more at my website.
