I am goal oriented. I ask couples to give their relationship top priority and to set a goal of finishing therapy in twelve sessions or less. I invite them to commit to spending an hour together each day. The main focus of therapy is to identify the real issue and then to get that issue healed or resolved. Connecting with the real issue oftentimes requires accessing the unconscious mind, which requires learning the language of Feelings. This is generally as difficult as learning a new language such as Chinese or German. This is what makes couples therapy so challenging.

I've been doing couples therapy since 1972. I like to think I'm getting more competent with each new couple. I believe each couple is unique yet I do personality testing to highlight personality strengths and weaknesses. I'm a retired Army Officer, a Roman Catholic, happily married for 48 years with three fantastic children and seven wonderful grandchildren.

The four roles of a therapist are also my responsibilities to you. They are 1) make an assessment or diagnosis. See my website under "Mental Health Screening; 2) be supportive and nonjudgemental; 3) be confrontive when appropriate; 4) lead you to new perspectives/awarenesses. When you're ready to start on a journey of healing, call me.
