I believe the relationship between therapist and couple is a key ingredient for successful marital therapy. I teach couples communication skills and conflict negotiation skills. I help couples develop an empathic understanding of how childhood experiences affect their current relationship. I use research based interventions to assist couples in attaining goals established in our initial consultation. My approach emphasizes realistic expectations of marriage as well as strategies to cope with the inevitable disappointments of marriage. My training allows me to identify and treat psychological disorders that interfere with marital satisfaction. I work in collaboration with medical specialists when indicated. I always attempt to create a safe therapeutic environment within which feelings can be openly discussed. I often integrate parenting skills into the marital therapy. I support couples in their journey to explore the spiritual dimensions of their marriage.
