My work with couples flows out of my belief that human beings were created for relationship. I am committed to viewing marriage as rich and fulfilling, not just stuck together. I will draw on therapeutic research and my own marriage of 37 years for what works and what does not. I will seek to be practical and clear. While I have a deep belief in making a marriage work, and will do all I can to work for the marriage, responsibility for the future of the marriage is the decision of the couple. I approach therapy from a family systems perspective, which means that I look to the emotional process between people rather than focusing on the internal workings of one person. Sessions will include development of a three generation family diagram that will clarify and expand your view of what you bring to the marriage and who you are together. I will seek to engage, challenge, and support each partner to move toward new ways of relating. When one person changes, the relationship will eventually change, thus, I will work with individuals who want to make change in the marriage. I also offer pre-marital counseling and use a family diagram combined with the PREPARE-ENRICH Inventory to assist the couple in looking at the unique ingredients of their life together.
