My personal mission is to help people make real change in their life and overcome self-limiting patterns. As both a PhD Psychologist and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I work with a broad range of life problems for both individuals and couples. My approach to therapy is multi-level, using a wide variety of techniques, and is highly influenced by the executive coaching work I do with leaders in business (execperform.com). Clients often give feedback they appreciate I'm more involved and active compared to past therapy they've experienced, rather than just "listening" without much comment.

Marital/Couples Counseling Description:

Dr. Tim McCarthy helps couples break negative relationship patterns sabotaging their happiness to unblock deeper feelings of love and happiness. After working with couples for over 25 years using traditional forms of marriage/couple's counseling Dr. McCarthy has developed a new model for marriage, relationship success, and couples counseling. His approach of Dynamic Relationship Co–Coaching challenges many currently accepted beliefs about romantic relationships and what it takes to have a successful marriage: e.g. “you should just accept your partner and not try to change their behavior.” Rather, the relationship is seen as a dynamic growth process for learning how to become more loving partners through mutual coaching.

Each partner seeks to clearly identify their own core negative relationship pattern and help each other change through mutual, respectful coaching. Blaming–complaining is eliminated and commitment is made to open feedback and communication. Couples unable to break longstanding reoccurring patterns learn new skills for effective communication and restoration of deeper love/closeness.

Personal Note by Tim McCarthy, PhD:

“There’s nothing more important than the relationship with your partner in life. It requires skills and competency just like any thing else. No one ever told us this because society requires absolutely no knowledge or education about long term relationship success and marriage. Subsequently, the divorce rate is so very high. If you really want to have a happy marriage, then be proactive, take an intelligent approach and help "coach" one another to new love & happiness!”

(Note: Dr. McCarthy is currently writing a new book: "Coaching Yourselves To A Fabulous Relationship! A New Model for Marriage & Romantic Relationships!")
