I have practiced marriage therapy for nearly thirty years with an ever-growing conviction that nearly all marriages are worth fighting for. Our throwaway culture makes it hard for couples to sustain life long intimacy and commitment, but I believe that most couples can succeed if they make saving their marriage their highest priority. As a therapist, I work with people’s strengths rather than emphasizing their weaknesses. I help them see that what they hate about each other is often the flip side of what they love. I help both partners understand what they are each contributing to the problem, which liberates them to take personal action to make things better rather demanding that the other person change. We often laugh together in therapy because we are all foolish and smart at the same time. I am caring and challenging, sometimes leading and sometimes following your lead. Being invited into the inner world of a marriage is one of the great privileges of my life.
