Kathleen S. Wenger, MA
Co-founder / CEO
Kathleen S. Wenger, MA, “Kay” co-founded the National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists in 2005. She blends a unique background of business professional and therapist to meet the unique needs of The Registry. Over the past twenty-three years, Kay has held the position of Manager of Clinical Training and Professional Development while serving on the Adjunct Faculty in the Psychology Program at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
She currently oversees and aides over 800 future marriage and family therapists, along with Pepperdine’s Psychology alumni in their Clinical Training and Professional Development. In her long standing role as a university manager, Kay is passionate about helping therapists become more visible to couples in need of help with their relationships. Through years of working with psychology students and licensed professionals, Kay learned that many therapists lack marketing skills. This is why she created www.MarriageFriendlyTherapists.com.
Prior to entering the field of psychotherapy education and training, Kay was the National Director of Sales and Marketing for a large publicly held company. Additionally, in the late 80’s, she was Western Regional Director, overseeing all western operations of a national corporation.
Kay received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University in 1992 and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. For the past 20 years she has chaired/co-chaired the MFT Consortium in Southern California, a setting where professionals from agencies and universities come together to discuss relevant issues within the psychology world.
Wayne assists Kay in pulling together the pieces that make the big picture work at Marriage Friendly Therapists. From concept to implementation of ongoing decisions that make up the Registry, Wayne works with each of our departments to implement the systems and strategies needed to run and improve our daily operations. Author of five books on human and business development, Wayne has mentored and trained thousands of business professionals on how to expand their practices.
Wayne’s background includes three decades of sales experience, writing, editing, and web expertise which he draws from to develop online communication written for two audiences: couples trying to find therapists, and search engines. Wayne helps therapists grow their practices by helping to structure the Registry’s online communications and business practices. The result is that more couples who need help, find the Registry, and when they search for therapists in your area … they find you!
Alison Stockland, M.A., has been working with the Registry since early 2014. She excels at supporting our therapists as the ultimate multi-tasker. Therapists have different needs and expectations, and she responds accordingly.
Alison received her BS at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she majored in nutrition, and then obtained her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1994 from National University. Alison has counseled clients in her clinical experience and understands the dynamics of the business. She has also worked in an administrative capacity for many years. This blend of administration with understating the needs of couples is an asset here at Marriage Friendly Therapists.
Alison’s approach to her work is to develop partnerships and working relationships with our current and future therapists. This is important to ensure every point of contact is productive and successful, and that therapists get what they expect out of belonging to the Registry. In getting to know our therapists, Alison is often able to anticipate their needs and respond effectively, consistently, and professionally.
Behind the scenes at Marriage Friendly Therapists, Kalina’s focus is primarily on therapist experience. She personally reviews every new therapist profile and works with our team of writers to feature therapist profiles in the best possible way.
As manager of our profile review team, Kalina pays careful attention to what is being said about you, even if you say it yourself! She also plays a key role of connecting couples that inquire with us directly looking for a therapist in their area.
Kalina earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire in December 2012. She’s worked at a leading psychiatric hospital with adolescent girls, and she continues to educate herself while working with the Registry. She also aspires to pursue her Masters in the coming years.
