About Dr. Kristen Morrison

The true test of a marriage is not how committed you feel when you’re madly in love, but how ready you are to work on the relationship when it gets hard

Most marriages will face some difficult times when the relationship is more work than reward. Far from being a sign that your marriage is doomed, this is simply the reality of making a lifelong commitment to another person. There’s a reason that many wedding vows include something like, “in good times and in bad, for better or worse….” My role is to help you through those rough times, so you can emerge from them feeling stronger, more connected, and more confident in your relationship. Restoring the joy, happiness, and love you once felt is absolutely possible, and it will be worth all the effort it took to get there.

I have worked with couples and marriages work through and overcome issues such as:

  • affairs & infidelity
  • boundaries
  • depression
  • grief and loss
  • interpersonal concerns and relationships
  • mindfulness & mind-body integration
  • parenting
  • perfectionism
  • pre-marital counseling
  • stress
  • transitioning to parenthood

My Approach as a Couples Counselor:

If your hope in coming to marital therapy is that I’m going to “fix” your spouse, you should know that’s not how I operate. The best outcomes occur when both partners come to therapy ready to stop pointing fingers and to start by looking in the mirror.

I help partners break out of unhealthy cycles by providing you with communication tools, and by creating a space to discuss difficult topics in a way that is both productive and emotionally safe. I also help you increase the positives you share together – such as fun, support, and friendship – and bring you back to the strengths that made you choose each other in the first place.

Couples therapy has the power to turn your relationship around by increasing the positives you share together (such as fun, support, and friendship), decreasing the negatives (such as unproductive and escalating fights), and bringing you back to the strengths that made you choose each other in the first place

It’s essential that both you and your partner think I would be a good fit for you, and the best way to determine this is through an initial phone consultation. If you’d like to learn more about how I would approach your specific situation, please give me a call.
