About  Katie Dimperio

Katie B. Dimperio, M.A., is a Licensed Professional Counselor who, since 2002, maintains professional privileges as a staff therapist at Newsome and Associates, Ltd. (individual, couples, family and group counseling). Katie’s primary area of expertise is Marital and Couples Therapy. Her extensive experience crosses age, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Prior to joining dual practices, Katie served as the Director of Support Services for Resolve of Illinois, where she specialized in infertility, education, advocacy and support for women and couples. A past member of the Mediation Task Force for the Village of Orland Park and the Orland Park Police Department, Katie procured post-graduate work at the University of Chicago’s Advanced Psychodynamic Clinical Practice Fellowship Program.

Specific areas of interest include working with couples facing issues of trust, infidelity or abuse in the relationship; assisting couples who have grown apart to rebuild and heal their relationship through improved communication, developing new ways of interacting and employing effective conflict resolution techniques; and working with divorcing couples to minimize negativity for the sake of their children. Katie is also well versed in the holistic approach of Mind, Body and Spirit as it relates to the immune system and stress-related illnesses as well as depression and anxiety.

Our history “plays itself out” in the present in our behaviors and interactions organically. Katie defines what brought the patient in and helps patients to attain awareness of his/her goals and the focus for treatment; identifies the depth below the symptoms; and assists the patient in appropriate verbal delivery. In addition, she helps patients to decrease reactivity, create and increase “responding”; identifying one's own emotional internal temperature and attain the emotional skill set to properly manage; melting defenses, validation, and to facilitate the therapeutic experience, (i.e.) to allow the patient to embrace his/her own journey; to possibly forgive oneself and potential hope for the forgiveness of others.
