“My personal mission is to help people make real change in their life and overcome self-limiting patterns. As both a Ph.D. Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 28 years of experience, I work with a broad range of life problems for both individuals and couples. My approach to therapy is multi-level, using a wide variety of techniques, and is highly influenced by the executive coaching work I do with leaders in business. Clients often give feedback they appreciate I’m more involved and active compared to past therapy they’ve experienced, rather than just listening without much comment.”
Dr. McCarthy has received the Angie’s List Super Service Award for ranking in the top 5% for “counseling-marriage/relationship” based on consistent “A” grade client ratings (unsolicited by him).
After working with couples for over 28 years, Dr. McCarthy developed a new approach for marriage and couples counseling in 2010. His Relationship Co-Coaching challenges many currently accepted beliefs about romantic relationships and what it takes to have a successful marriage such as “I shouldn’t have to change my behavior; just accept me the way I am.” Rather, the relationship is seen as a dynamic growth process based on mutual coaching. Dr. McCarthy helps couples break core negative relationship patterns, communicate more effectively, and reduce conflict through his 6-step Softly Specific conflict resolution process. And couples transform their relationship through unselfish love by intentionally meeting one another’s unique love needs.

PERSONAL NOTE (By Tim McCarthy, Ph.D.)
“There’s nothing more important than the relationship with your partner in life. It requires skills and competency just like anything else. No one ever told us this because society provides absolutely no knowledge or education about long-term relationship success and marriage. Subsequently, the divorce rate is so very high. If you really want to have a happy marriage, then be proactive, take an intelligent approach and help coach one another to love & happiness!”
