About  Linda Kane

In couples therapy, it’s important that you feel heard and understood; both by your partner and your counselor.

I approach therapy by building a tailored method for a couple based on each partner’s view of the relationship problem. Where are you stuck? Where do you want to make changes in your relationship? Together, we will look at the patterns that reinforce the cycles that lead to frustration and resentment. I help couples to put their thoughts into words that their partner can both hear and understand, and that benefit the relationship.

As we work together in therapy, I welcome feedback about how things are going and whether you feel the methods we are using are helping or need to be adjusted. I have experience with concerns that couples often face and have particular interest in a few areas:

Eating Disorders and your Relationship

Treating individuals with eating disorders is a large portion of my therapy practice. It’s important to note too the profound effect an eating disorder can have on your relationship.

I understand the complexities involved, the impact to your relationship, and can offer you a safe place to talk, cope, and build a healthier bond with your partner.

Treatment for Addictions

I also have experience treating a variety of other addictions including alcohol abuse, drug abuse, gambling addiction, and gaming addictions. I can help you address the myriad of ways these addictions reach into your relationship.

Sex Therapy

Real intimacy requires vulnerability and a willingness to be open and honest. If you find yourself struggling to find common ground in your intimate relationship and find that you are feeling increasingly distanced from your partner, I can help you get to a place of relaxed connection.

I can provide you with the freedom to work out tough issues in an environment where you feel safe, heard, and understood. The reward for your vulnerability is greater freedom in all areas of your relationship.

Education and Counseling Experience

I have been in private practice since 1992, treating both individuals and couples. Shortly after completing my training in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in 1995, I began and completed training there in Couples and Family Therapy.

Additionally, I have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a treatment for PTSD and other traumas.

If you are ready to get to work on the tough issues that are holding you back from a relationship that nurtures, I encourage you to take the next step. It is a leap of faith to come to therapy, and I value my clients’ courage in doing so. I am happy to meet for a consultation to give a sense of how I work and whether we are well matched.

Please email me using the contact form or call my office directly to learn more about how we can work together.
