About Dr. Ester Goldvarg

My name is Dr. Ester Goldvarg, and I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Psychologist, with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. During my studies in the Doctoral program, I conducted research that examined the effects of individuals’ upbringing on their ability to form relationships, as well as on the issues of jealousy, infidelity, and revenge. I also served as an Adjunct Professor at Adelphi University where I taught classes on Interpersonal Relationships, and was published in the Journal of Group Psychotherapy.

I started my private practice, Mind Wellness Psychological Services, to offer individual and couples psychotherapy to people who experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues, post-traumatic stress, and eating disorders. Throughout my training and span of professional experience, I have been privileged to work with people of different ages and cultural backgrounds. I work with adults, couples, and families utilizing empirically supported treatment, and use an individualized approach to tailor treatment to the specific issues that people present with. I am trained in a variety of treatment approaches, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Play Therapy. I am also fluent in the Russian language and offer psychotherapy and psychological evaluations in both English and Russian languages.

During couple’s therapy sessions, I integrate Emotion Focused Therapy, Couples Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy approaches to help couples who experience difficulties in their relationship. The goal of this type of therapy is to help the couple gain insight into the root of their issues, assist them with increasing the ability to empathize with one another, and develop effective communication skills.

My family therapy treatment approach is based on the belief that family is a social system that consists of its own unique patterns of relationships and communication styles. When these patterns are maladaptive, they lead to significant distress and prevent the system from functioning in an effective way. Whether treating an individual’s problem that has an impact on the family as a whole (i.e., addiction, depression, behaviors), or helping family members improve their interpersonal relationships in general, family therapy has been proven to be an effective way to improve relationships and quality of life.

I have locations both in New York City, and in Brooklyn, New York. I see patients in my private practice for psychotherapy, conduct private psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluations with children and adults, and serve as a consultant/evaluator at the agencies that offer help to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, and Learning Disabilities.
