Privacy Policy

The National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists (the "Registry") is committed to protecting the privacy of the users of marriagefriendlytherapists.com (the "Site"). The following outlines our privacy and data protection policy:

Your Personal Information: Couples

The only information that we will obtain about you is the information that you explicitly and voluntarily supply to us when you use the Site to locate a therapist, access information on the Site, or provide a client evaluation (which will be anonymous if that is your choice). Information identifiable to you personally (such as name, email or home address) will not be disclosed to anyone unless you have given us permission to do so. Information about couples accessing the Site may be aggregated for purposes of statistical evaluation without personal identification. We will not give, sell or transfer any personal information to a third party without your express permission to do so, unless we are required to do so by applicable law or a court (see "Exceptions to Assurance of Confidentiality").

Your Personal Information: Therapists

When you become a therapist listed on the Registry, certain of the information that you provide to us (for example, contact information) will be available to anyone who accesses the Site. Information about you that is not available on the Site (for example, information on your application) will be used by us in connection with the mission of the Registry and may be aggregated for purposes of statistical evaluation without personal identification. We will not give, sell or transfer any personal information to a third party without your express permission to do so. We will not provide you or anyone else with evaluations by your clients if the clients choose to provide information , unless we are required to do so by applicable law or a court (see "Exceptions to Assurance of Confidentiality").

Exceptions to Assurance of Confidentiality

There are three exceptions to our assurances of confidentiality:

United States law requires that any suspicion of risk of child abuse be reported to child welfare authorities or law enforcement authorities. If we believe that a child is at risk of being abused, has already been abused, or that someone who previously abused children is still a threat, we have no choice but to immediately make every effort possible to report it to social services agencies and/or the police.

Most United States courts have the power to subpoena our records and a therapist's records if you are involved in a court case in which your relationship with us or the therapist is somehow relevant. Although this may be rare, if you have any questions, it is better to contact your lawyer prior to disclosing any information you may deem private.

If someone's life is in danger, we will attempt to report it. This applies to potential cases of suicide or homicide.

Internet Protocol Address

An internet protocol (IP) address is a number assigned to your computer for the purpose of identifying it on the internet. All computer identification on the Internet is conducted with IP addresses, which allow computers and servers to recognize and communicate with each other. We collect IP addresses in order to conduct system administration, aggregate information, conduct site analysis, and accumulate data that can be used to develop meaningful statistical information. If a visitor requests pages from our Site, our servers enter the visitor's IP address into a log. To maintain visitor anonymity, we do not associate IP addresses with records containing personal information. However, we will use IP addresses to identify any visitors who refuse to comply with our terms and conditions and to identify visitors who threaten the Site or our mission.

Cookies

We may enable "cookies." A "cookie" is a file placed on your personal computer's hard drive so that we can identify repeat usage, determine the features of the website that are the most popular and generally evaluate whether we are accomplishing our purposes. The only information a cookie can contain is the information that you supply to it; a cookie cannot read data off your hard drive. You can delete cookies from your hard drive at any time. For further information on the use of cookies, go to www.cookiecentral.com.

Third Party Providers

The websites of third parties accessed from the Site have different privacy policies and are not subject to our privacy policy. We recommend that you read the privacy statement of each such website to find out how your personal information is protected. To help us protect your privacy, please advise us if you have problems with the privacy policy of any third party website.

Changes to this Statement

Due to changes in legislation, best practice or enhancements to functionality and content on the Site, we may make changes to our privacy policy and will reflect those changes in this statement. Please check here from time to time for such changes.
