About  Jim Thomas

Jim brings 30 plus years and over 28,000 direct clinical therapy hours with families, couples and individuals to bear in his practice.   As an Emotionally Focused Therapist, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, he demonstrates a passion and commitment to relational work that is perhaps second to none.  From couples on the brink of divorce, to affair recovery, struggles with addiction, overcoming trauma or simply wanting to improve a relationship, Jim offers a wide array of applicable services from traditional weekly appointments to 2 and 3-Day Therapy Intensives focused on you and your relationship!

As Jim says, "It is important that we work together in a collaborative manner to resolve the real life issues you bring to marital therapy or family therapy.  I offer supportive and affirming services to couples and families in my Lakewood, Colorado office.

Currently, couples come in from all over the U.S. and Canada to take advantage of a 2-Day Couples Intensive focused on their relationship.  These marriage intensives are for one couple at a time.  We meet over two days, in essence it is like threading 14 therapy sessions together without life or circumstances, old patterns, getting in the way.  They take place in a very welcoming office space, conveniently located within walking distance of 4 hotels. Anonymity is easier for couples who are in the public eye as the building is a not in the center of commerce or political arena, but quietly located in the Academy Park area in Lakewood, Colorado."  Jim also offers more traditionally weekly appointments.

Common Questions Couples Face When Distressed:

  • Is our relationship worth saving or is it too late?
  • Do you offer pre-marital counseling?
  • How do we balance family and career?
  • What about our sexual issues and lack of intimacy?
  • Could we just get a “booster” shot for our relationship?
  • Should I stay in an unsatisfying marriage for the sake of the children?
  • Can I regain those old feelings of love for my partner?
  • Can we find new feelings for each other?
  • Will our marriage survive after an emotional or sexual affair?
  • What do I need to know the second-time around?   How do we blend our families?
  • Can the compulsive behavior that hurts us both ever stop?
  • Can couples counseling really help?
  • Is there a well-researched ways, an approach, to helping couples in distress?
