About Dr. John Rhead

Helping couples to experience more deeply satisfying love relationships is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work as a Licensed Psychologist and Couples Therapist (a.k.a. Marriage Counselor).   I believe that improvement in the relationship of a couple helps not only the two people in the couple but also other family members and many others with whom they have contact.  To learn more about how I view this work please visit my website to read my writings.

What must the members of a couple bring to Couples Therapy in order to have a chance for a better relationship?

  • To hope that things can change for the better in spite of many setbacks and great discouragement
  • To risk being seen more clearly by your partner and by yourself
  • To confront and endure the pain of old injuries,  such as infidelity

  • To cultivate kindness, respect, and love for your partner
  • To hang in there through difficult times
  • To speak the truth
  • To do your best to be a better partner each day and to help your partner be a better partner to you each day

  • About who your partner really is and who you really are at the deepest level
  • About what a truly and deeply “successful” relationship looks like
  • About what a genuinely fulfilling life entails,
  • About how spiritual and/or existential components are part of an intimate relationship with a partner

What must I, as the Couples Therapist or Marriage Counselor, bring to the table?

Skill as a Couples Therapist based on

  • Formal training (e.g. Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University)
  • Life experience in intimate relationships and working to make them better

  • To be as helpful as I can
  • To remain humble in the presences of transformation and healing
  • Passion to grow and to help others grow

  • A little bit
  • On a good day

I look forward to helping you find healing and growth. Please reach out using the contact form or call my office.
