About  Lauren Ostrowski

Want to learn more about navigating conflict skillfully?

Want to know what makes some conversations seem to go in dozens of different directions while also not getting anywhere quickly?

Can you imagine learning to clearly define your desires while listening actively and magnifying your knowledge about yourselves and each other?

Call me today to create change, starting right now, through couples counseling.

It is office policy that you will be transferred to the office manager prior to being able to schedule an appointment with a therapist in this group practice. You will still be able to schedule with me by simply asking to see me.

My favorite type of clinical work is working with couples or individual clients who are looking to make changes in their relationships, either with significant others or with their family or friends. Couples counseling or relationship therapy is so empowering! You can move toward your goals, beginning today! Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?

I believe in empowering clients to make change through looking at what they are actually motivated to change and emphasizing the fact that each person can only guarantee change in themselves.

I am trained in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy and have been working closely with its developers, Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson, for several years. This model focuses on teaching partners to recognize and effectively communicate their own wants, wishes, and desires to their partner while also being able to hear their partner's thoughts, feelings, and wishes about the same topic. Additionally, the Developmental Model looks at attachment styles and the way that our brains are hardwired to protect us from feeling emotional pain, so we learn coping mechanisms to keep us from feeling repeated emotional discomfort. While this is helpful at the time, some of the skills that we learn in one relationship are automatically applied to the next, which can make clear communication and change rather difficult. Recognizing patterns in conflict provides a window into self-protections and vulnerabilities while leading to a starting point for learning skills to lessen the intensity of those emotional reactions. Learning to manage the anxiety of working through difficult conversations becomes easier through work in the office and changes in awareness and reactions at home even following the first session! This is one of many impactful parts of couples counseling.

While keeping in mind what you are motivated to change, I'll ask your permission to interrupt ineffective communication patterns in session. Then I'll guide you in the powerful process of learning about yourself and your partner, what is making you react the way you are, and how these interactions are shifting because you are already willing to learn about yourself!

Are you ready to learn to communicate in a way that dramatically lessens blaming, finger-pointing, and asking the other partner to change? Simultaneously, you'll learn the skills to talk about what is important to you and what you are experiencing and really hearing your partner. Remember, listening or hearing each other does not imply agreement with one another. Rather, it opens doors to noticing different perspectives, ideas, and feelings and talking about them.

Are you ready to create the relationship that you want through feeling empowered?
